3-LIFE CHANGING BENEFITS OF VOLUNTEERING

3-LIFE CHANGING BENEFITS OF VOLUNTEERING

A lot of us say that we don’t really have time to volunteer, and others make the blunt statement that it only benefits others, so why waste time doing it. But, the benefits of volunteering on the individual are far-reaching and can have a greater impact on four different levels. If you want to find out what they are, then keep on reading.

Raising awareness

Regardless of any outflow of donations an organization can receive to support a current need but volunteering also helps keep the organization and the cause afloat for the future. That’s because when you volunteer, you help raise awareness for the cause: whether through word of mouth between family and friends or social media, you end up both though conscious effort and without realizing sharing all you know about the cause you are volunteering for.

Not only that but when you volunteer, you are making a direct impact on the people affected by your cause as well as the team you are working with: you are making a tangible long-term change in a life.

Finding a job

Want to transition into a new field or get your foot in the door of the non-profit sector?  Volunteering can help you make the transition to a whole new career. As an added value on your resume and a proof of your commitment to something long term, being a volunteer will offer you an experience early on in life, to real world situations as it teaches you skills that may impact the decisions you will make in your work.

Breaking out of comfort zone

Say goodbye to fear, and daily routines that suck the life out of you. Volunteering always comes with challenges that broaden your skill set and push your limits. Whether it’s facing fears or discovering new cultures, volunteering will broaden your horizon in which you will inevitably learn new ways to approach existing problems, new ways of looking at the world, and new ways to view a global issue.

For those who volunteered before and still are, what else can you add to the list? Let us know!
